Iqra means read and it was the first command that Allah gave to His beloved Prophet and therefore emphasizes the importance of gaining knowledge. It is narrated by Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah said, “The acquisition of knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim man and woman” (Ibn Majah).
Iqra Elementary believes readers are leaders, which open the doors to success. Reading the book of Allah is our top priority, along with exploring math, science, social studies, and language arts, and making the connection between the Creator and his creations.
Iqra Elementary is a full time, private Islamic school located in Springfield, VA, that has been serving the Northern Virginia community for many years. Iqra follows Fairfax County’s curriculum along with the teaching of Qur’an, Arabic and Islamic Studies. Our goal is to give students an enriched education as well as integrating Islam throughout the curriculum. Currently it serves approximately 140 students in grades Pre-K through 4th grade.
Our mission is based on the Prophet’s prayer in the Quran: “O Allah, bestow on us the best in this world and the best in the hereafter and save us from the punishment of the hellfire.”
Our goal is to build strong individuals through a solid academic foundation. We implement creative methods of learning through multimedia, hands-on activities, and student competitions. We want our students to have a strong Muslim identity and an exceptional intellectual ability to emerge successful in all aspects of life.
